Homemade Honey Face Mask

There really is a magical feeling emitted when it comes to making something yourself. I guess that’s why “DIY” is such a trending tag on Pinterest. That great, self-made feeling can be elevated tenfold when creating something with ingredients or tools that are affordable and easily-accessible.

One of my favorite ways to treat myself is through skincare ritual. My routine is not super complex, but it is cherished and valuable to my day and week. At least once a week I give myself a “facial”. I wash my face super thoroughly and with lots of attention, apply a mask, and sit in a hot bath and listen to a podcast or watch a movie.

This mask is one of my favorites because:

  1. I always have the ingredients for it.

  2. It smells and feels really lovely.

  3. It makes my skin absolutely GLOW!

Here’s the sitch with this Honey Mask; you could literally use ONLY honey and your skin would be super stoked. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties that draw out impurities from your pores, while also hydrating your skin! Honey is one of my heroes.

That being said, I do like to add a few other beneficial ingredients to take my homemade mask experience up a notch. Here’s what I use:

Pumpkin Spice Blend (or Cinnamon) - Cinnamon has incredible anti-inflammatory properties that can help to clear skin of any breakouts. It also brings blood flow to the skin, which I find increases said glow. Ginger is a powerhouse root, most of us know this to be true. Its anti-inflammatory benefits can be enjoyed both internally and externally! Allspice contains Vitamin A and Vitamin C and boasts big-time antiseptic advantages. Nutmeg serves as a gentle exfoliator and also helps to even complexion. *I would suggest to omit spices from the mask if you have sensitive skin, as they can be too strong or irritating.*

Activated Charcoal - I keep charcoal capsules in the house to take if I am feeling bloated, or if something upsets my stomach. Activated charcoal is also great to have on hand if you happen to drink too much the night before. Activated charcoal draws out impurities and absorbs toxins. Utilizing it when necessary benefits the inner and the outer body. Its versatile, people!

Lavender Essential Oil - Lavender, like honey, is a skincare champion. It can help to fight acne, balance the moisture of the skin, prevent wrinkles, and more! It is also THE spa scent of all spa scents, so if adding lavender oil to your skincare doesn’t get you in the relaxed mood, I do not know what will.

  1. In a small bowl, combine some or all ingredients.

  2. Apply to clean, dry skin.

  3. Leave mask on for 10-15 minutes.
